Description

Repentance and Confession - Spiritual Life Series vol. 1 by Hieromonk Gregorios, Elder of the Cell of St. John the Theologian, Koutloumousiou Monastery, Mount Athos., Trans. by Stelios Zarganes. Trim size 4x6, 62pp.

From the Prologue:

Repentance is man’s return to God. It is a change-of-heart in the nous from the darkness of sin to the light of Christ. The beginning of this journey is “the awareness of our errors, which is a great opportunity for us to attract divine mercy. This is why the Prophet David says to God: Have mercy upon me,…For I am conscious of my iniquity (Ps. 50: 1, 3).” We acknowledge that we are responsible for our condition, and we humbly seek God’s mercy. …

This booklet speaks about repentance, the healing of the wounds of sin, and about holy Confession, the Sacrament through which man’s repentance is accomplished. Particular emphasis is placed on preparation for the Sacrament, as well as on the fruits of repentance that accompany it.

From the Contents:

1. Repentance is Medicine, 2. The Beginning of Repentance, 3. How does the Compassionate Father receive us?, 4. Confession and Holy Communion, 5. Obstacles to Repentance, 6. True Medicine for the Healing of the Soul

Published by John C. (Gregorios) on Dec 25th 2023

Previously, I was blessed beyond measure to receive a copy of Newrome's volume "Do Not Judge" in the Spiritual Life Series. Since that time, I've recommended & lent the book out numerous times. Part of the same series, this text supports the spiritual wayfarer in a multitude of ways, most notably by making clear the nature & inner depths of the Holy Mystery of Confession. Organized in a meaningful & practical manner, the reader is guided into a more profound meditation on his or her walk with Christ, leading to the cultivation of a more salient repentance. I can't help but believe that my participation in Holy Confession & appreciation for repentance itself have benefitted from this text beyond measure. May the author & Newrome be blessed by our Lord & may their service to the Holy Church continue.

This book is beautifully written, short, and packed with such sweet grace filled morsels. I was especially touched on the chapter about the prodigal son. 10 out of 10.

    Priceless

Published by Fr. John Mahfouz on Jun 16th 2023

As repentance is central to the Christian life, Hieromonk Gregorios beautifully leads the reader into an understanding of our Lord's call to repentance and how this is lived out in our life. A must read for all.
